10 Second Reviews: 2046, The Good Shepherd, Hot Fuzz, 300

  1. 2046 (2004) – In a word: Tiresome. I usually love Chinese movies, but this one was too arty for its own good. Maybe I just didn’t get it, but it was just too much.
  2. The Good Shepherd (2006) – This was a good film, but a bit depressing. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I known more about the history of the CIA. Matt Damon’s performance is pretty wooden, but appropriate for his character.
  3. Hot Fuzz (2007) – This movie was a real surprise for me. It has typical British humor, but with a really wicked twist. I thought it was brilliant. The best way to describe this is by describing it as a film that shows what would happen if an American cop movie had a British plot. See it!
  4. 300 (2006) – I really had very little interest in seeing this film in the theater, but it turned out to be pretty enjoyable. It is in no way to be viewed as a historical movie. I think most criticism has stemmed from that point, unfortunately. It is over the top in so many ways, but very interesting. It is filmed in a way that really seems to bring the graphic novel to life. For an action flick it is a fun ride.
