- This Filthy World (2004), Starring John Waters. This is a great 86 minute stand up/lecture/one man show. It was hilarious. He is a brilliant speaker and it was just great to hear him reminisce about his films, influences and friends. His memories of his friend Divine were a riot! If you like John Waters, this is a must-see.
- Logan’s Run (197something), starring Michael York. A Sci-Fi classic. The story is not unfamiliar to anyone who sees a lot of SciFi films and TV – most of which are no doubt influenced by this movie. It is a good film, nonetheless. I found Michael York’s character to be incredibly ambiguous, however. I wasn’t every really sure where he stood. Was just his delivery or how he interpreted Logan?
- Accepted (2006), starring Justin Long. A completely unrealistic, but amusing take on “What if a bunch of jackasses could get together and create their own college?” I think the hardest thing for me to get over in watching this was how silly it was that none of these kids could get accepted ANYWHERE. Come on! If their parents could pay $10,000.00 a semester, they could have certainly attended a school somewhere. And to have had SO many kids in that same school/class not get accepted anywhere was just…well silly. So yeah it was unrealistic, but a fun movie. Not hilarious by any stretch, but funny.
- A Good Woman (2004) starring Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johansson. This is a period movie set in 1930 in Italy. It claims it is a comedy, but it is more like a dramedy. It is a nice little film with a happy ending. Helen Hunt plays a professional mistress (of sorts) who leaves NYC for greener pastures in southern Italy where American and British elites spend their free time. I thought the acting was good, though not a stretch for any of them.
