Study: Women Are in Charge at Home

I thought this was an interesting article. Made me think about the difference between previous generations and relationships that are happy and have lasted and those that don’t or are unhappy. I think most telling is this quote from the article:

“One reason for in-charge wives could be that they carry the weight of making sure the family farm is running smoothly.

‘Women are responsible for overseeing the relationship, making sure the relationship runs, that everything gets done, and that everybody’s happy,’ Murphy said.

Wife power could signal a harmonious couple. ‘There’s been research that suggests that’s a marker of a healthy marriage—that men accept influence from their wives,’ Murphy said.”

Could it be that unhappy or unsuccessful marriages are such simply because the wife’s opinions are not respected by the husband? Is that just an oversimplification? At any rate, I’m sure that communication is of course paramount to people getting along. I guess if you don’t think your partner is going to listen to you , you’ll eventually shut up and not talk any more thus causing more problems.

Here is the article:

Study: Women Are in Charge at Home

“Men might throw their weight around at the office, but at home, women are the bosses.

A study, which was just released, finds that wives have more power than their husbands in making decisions and dominating discussions.”
