Student Loans finally getting attention by Congress

I’ve been talking about this problem for years and have written both Sens. Byrd and Rockefellar on this issue. I was surprised and please to see this story yesterday.

Congress acts to cap monthly payment for low-income student borrowers

Of course President Bush doesn’t like it, but they mention some specific items that I have been calling for such as student loan forgiveness for public service careers.

So support these bills. This is an incredible opportunity for our country to tackle student loan debt.

The amount of student loans people accrue is flabbergasting. I think my brother-in-law has over $100,000 worth of loans for school. I can’t even imagine the stress that must cause.
