West Virginia in the Movies: "Bubble" and Marshall U plane crash tragedy

Periodically films are made or placed in West Virginia. Being a West Virginian, I thought I’d comment on them in my column from time to time.

Bubble (2005)
Steven Soderbergh recently released a filmed named “Bubble” which was filmed in Parkersburg, WV on the Ohio River. The film used local, non-professional actors, but has drawn some critical acclaim so far. I have yet to see it, but will post when I do. IMDb.com has info on it here: Bubble (2005) at IMDb.com

Movie about Marshall U’s Football team tragedy (as yet untitled)
A new movie that will begin filming soon in the Huntington, WV area will tell the story of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team, all of whom were all killed on Nov. 14, 1970 in a plane crash coming back from a game against East Carolina. Matthew McConaughey will play the coach (apparently), but if you check out this story from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch (Marshall University crash story headed to big screen) you’ll wonder what the heck they were thinking. He’s a heck of a lot younger and better looking than the actual coach…but I guess that’s Hollywood fer ya.
